Reade Street Animal Hospital, New York

A young veterinary practice sought to open an animal hospital in Lower Manhattan. Located on the ground floor of a typical Tribeca loft building, the space had been a high-end shoe store. Our challenges were to establish a strong visual connection to the street, maintain the historic context, efficiently support the medical staff, establish an acoustic separation from upstairs tenants, and design rooms that would provide comfort to patients and clients. By creating a clear separation of public and private spaces, Leo J. Blackman Architects was able to link the reception and waiting area via large storefront windows to Reade Street. The cheerful day-lit environment calms pets and owners while drawing in new customers. The custom furnishings, materials, and color selections add character unusual in a medical office.
