Williamsburg North Daycare Center, Kings Bay YM-YWHA, Brooklyn, NY

Occupying the ground floor of a newly built residential condo in Williamsburg, this early childhood facility began as raw space. The popular neighborhood seemed likely to produce new parents. Leo J. Blackman Architects was hired to create five classrooms (plus circulation and support areas) on a very limited budget. Code and way-finding issues led to a layout around a wide dog-leg hallway. Transom glazing brings light from front and back deep into the space. Color is used to identify individual classrooms.
